Neuromodulators

Botox in Pensacola, FL | Sandy Key Medical

Neuromodulator injections are some of the most well-known and effective non-surgical anti-aging treatments in the aesthetic industry.

Their primary purpose is to work beneath the skin’s surface to relax the underlying muscles from contracting, which in turn, lessens the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and the early signs of aging. Neurotoxin injections are quick, usually taking 15 to 30 minutes per session, and require a short recovery period, making them great for individuals looking for subtle cosmetic enhancements that fit their busy schedules.

When you choose the professionals at Sandy Key Medical for your neuromodulator injections, you can put your fears of unnatural or frozen results to rest. Nurse Practitioners and expert injectors Krystal Overly and Tiffany McGinnis have developed a reputation for achieving the most natural-looking neuromodulator results. The fact that you have had Botox® is your little secret.

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators, such as Botox, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Daxxify®, are all derived from the FDA-approved botulinum toxin. The botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the normal function of the nervous system by disrupting regular communications between nerve impulses. When administered into the facial muscles, neuromodulators temporarily prevent nerve impulse communications, resulting in limited muscle contractions. If facial muscles cannot contract, common wrinkles can relax and prevent future lines and creases from forming.

Most patients see enhancements to their appearance with diminished lines and wrinkles within five days and full results in two weeks. Results will vary from patient to patient. The results of your neuromodulator injections can last three to six months before additional treatments are required.

What Areas Can Botox Injections Treat?

Neuromodulators can address one or more of the following aesthetic issues on the face:

  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet
  • Lines between the eyebrows
  • Smoker’s lines around the mouth
  • Drooping brows
  • Neck bands
  • Chin dimples
  • Bunny lines across the nose

What Are Other Common Uses for Neuromodulators?

Excessive Sweating

Botox is commonly employed to prevent excessive sweating, a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis, by blocking the nerves that trigger the sweat glands.

Neck Bands

Botox can be used on specific muscles in the neck to reduce or eliminate the appearance of bands to promote a smoother, more youthful look.

TMJ

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge that attaches the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull. In short, the joint allows the jaw to move up and down and side to side. Pain or dysfunction associated with this joint is known as TMJ disorder or TMJ dysfunction. When injected into the temporomandibular joint, Botox helps relax tense jaw muscles and alleviate painful symptoms.

Chronic Migraines

The way Botox works to treat chronic migraines is by reducing the release of inflammatory and excitatory neurotransmitters and proteins. Neurotransmitters are chemicals released from the nervous system and used to transmit signals between nerve cells. Botox stops pain signals from the brain to the peripheral nerves, reducing the effects of chronic migraines.

What Are the Differences Between Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxify?

To begin, all four neuromodulators are made from Clostridium Botulinum type A. These injectable neuromodulators work similarly to block nerve signals and allow facial muscles to relax. On average, the results of Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport last 3 to 4 months. Daxxify results typically last 6 to 9 months. However, the longevity of your results will depend on your metabolism and the number of units you receive. All four options are excellent at reducing frown lines, crow’s feet, and deep forehead lines without surgical intervention.

The biggest differences between Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Daxxify are the lack of additive proteins and how quickly the neurotoxin takes effect. Botox and Dysport contain complex proteins that surround the botulinum type A toxin, whereas Xeomin and Daxxify have no added proteins, making them a purer form. The lack of additional proteins decreases the chances of allergic reactions or treatment resistance. As for results, some patients feel that Xeomin and Dysport work faster than Botox. On average, most patients noticed the effects of Xeomin and Daxxify within 2 to 4 days of their treatment; Dysport within 2 to 3 days; and Botox within 4 to 5 days.

How Can I Prepare for Botox at Sandy Key Medical?

Before their Botox appointment, we recommend that our patients avoid taking any unnecessary blood thinning medications or supplements, such as fish oil or Vitamin E. Patients should also stop taking any over-the-counter pain medications, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, or Advil, unless they are medically necessary. Lastly, we request that patients arrive with a fresh, clean face, free of heavy makeup, as the skin will be cleansed before the injections are administered.

How Are Botox Injections Administered?

On our team at Sandy Key Medical, we have two highly skilled nurse practitioners, Krystal Overly and Tiffany McGinnis, who will administer your neuromodulator injections. Before your appointment, you’ll consult with your Botox expert to discuss your aesthetic goals and create a treatment plan. During this consultation, we use this time to ask our patients what they like about themselves so that we can focus on enhancing those features for fresh, natural results.

After cleansing the skin and marking the targeted areas, a minimal amount of neurotoxin is administered to the targeted area using an ultra-fine needle that precisely delivers a controlled amount of neuromodulator into the targeted facial muscle. Most patients report a slight pinch during the process, but patients report it as being tolerable—especially in the hands of our Sandy Key Medical Botox experts. Once the determined amount of product has been administered, your injector will cleanse the skin and discuss aftercare instructions.

We encourage consistency with Botox injections to maintain optimal results. Typically, we recommend a 3- to 4-month maintenance schedule to ensure results and help prevent future signs of aging.

Immediately after your Botox session, you can resume working and participating in most normal activities unless instructed by your injector or healthcare provider.
